The Cypress Christian Lady Warriors rallied back from a pair of six-run deficits for another exciting comeback victory, beating Incarnate Word Academy 18-16 and improving their record to 2-0.
After falling in a 6-0 hole in the first inning, the Warriors got on the scoreboard in the second thanks to Macy Murray’s solo homer, a rocket launched into a stiff wind blowing in from the outfield. That homerun was the first of four RBI’s on the night for the sophomore first baseman.Â
The Warriors evened the ledger at 6-6 in the third inning, thanks n part to back-to-back extra-base hits by Chloe Roberson and Lucy Davis and a game-tying RBI single from Melody Janz.
Trailing by six runs again in the sixth inning, the Warriors stormed back to take the lead for good with their home fans cheering them on. Macie Dammeyer knocked in three runs with a liner to left field to start the comeback. Roberson and Davis followed with back-to-back triples to put the Warriors in front to stay.
Freshman Kennedy Schwartz picked up the win in relief of Dammeyer. Schwartz pitched three innings and, backed by several solid defensive plays from her teammates, didn’t allow a ball to leave the infield over the final two frames as the Warriors came back for their second win in a row to start the 2022 season.
